The Democratic Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States of America, along with the Republican Party. It is currently the largest party with 72 million registered members. The Democratic Party identifies with the ideas of social liberalism and civil libertarian ideals.

The Republican Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States of America, along with the Democratic Party. It is often referred to as the Grand Old Party or the GOP. It is currently the second largest party with 55 million registered members, encompassing roughly one third of the electorate. The Republican Party supports a pro-business platform, with further foundations in economic libertarianism and a brand of social conservatism.

The Libertarian Party is the largest independent political party in the United States of America. It currently claims more than 200,000 registered voters. The Green party is a formally organized political party based on the principles of Green politics. These principles include environmentalism, reliance on grassroots democracy, nonviolence, and social justice causes, including those related to the rights of indigenous peoples. "Greens" believe that these issues are inherently related to ecological, social, and human bodily health.
